SNEAKERNESS 2009 - Premier European Sneaker Event For our European SP members, or anyone lucky enough to be in Switzerland next week, our friends over at Sneakerness have quite an event lined up for you. Sneakerness is a global event dedicated to the promotion and networking of the sneaker-culture, offering fans a platform to exchange sneakers, interact with fellow sneakerheads, and browse kicks from the most well-known fashion shops of Switzerland. The main event takes place May 9th starting at 1:00pm - get tickets here. Following the main event, Sneakerness is putting on an official afterparty featuring Bobbito Garcia (aka Kool Bob Love) and Clark Kent (aka Brooklyn’s Finest) - New York DJ legends and sneaker lovers themselves. Clark Kent is considered to be the discoverer of rap superstar Jay-Z. If this year's party is anything like their last one (pic below), it's sure to be a killer time!  Events like Sneakerness are proof that the sneaker culture truly is global, and we thank all of our international members for making Sneakerplay a more worldly community! April 7, 2009

Our First Feature Update: Photo Back-up and Faster LoadingWhat's good SP?! So it's been our first week of official Sneakerplay management and we've been busy working to get the hang of everything - it's an awesome site, but a complex one too. It's sometimes hard to see all of the work being done behind the scenes, so I wanted to update the community on our first launch that we rolled out this week (it would be cool if the site ran itself, but no, we are in fact working... ;-)We just launched a photo upgrade that does the following: • Backs up all of your photos so if (God forbid) the site goes down, all of your pics are backed-up and can be completely restored. • Photos load faster (as a result, most of the site loads faster). The photos on the site are now being displayed from servers all around the world, so regardless of where you are, they should load faster now (hopefully this makes our international members happy!). I know, you're thinking "that's boring geeky stuff, I don't care." Well, it's only boring until sh*t hits the fan and you lose your pretty photos. Plus, nobody likes waiting around, so faster site loading is good for everyone. Fortunately you now have both. We'll continue to try to keep you 'in the know' regarding our work. Also, we see your feedback/suggestions (thank you for posting them) and we're adding them to the list. It's a loooong list right now, but we're working to try to get to as much as we can. Hey SneakerplayHey guys, I’m Brian. Thanks RJ for the intro, I’m excited to say my first what’s up to the SP community! First of all, I want to give the SP founders the recognition they deserve for building such an amazing site and passionate community (that’s all of YOU) – I think we all owe a big thanks to RJ, Rob, and Mo for their innovation and dedication. Cheers to you guys!I know change can be scary, particularly when dealing with something that you care about (as you all clearly do about SP). I’m going to be as candid as possible and share who we are and what we plan to do with Sneakerplay. We ARE here to: • help the SP community grow and thrive. It’s in all of our best interest • let you do what you do best on Sneakerplay All Day! We’ll do what we do best (maintain the site and make it better) • listen to you on how we can improve SP • be as honest and transparent with you as possible, no BS • keep things moving forward, be innovative, and take SP to the next level! We are NOT here to: • radically change what you’ve come to love • corporatize (is that even a word?) SP • be fake and pretend to be something we’re not. You guys do your thing on Sneakerplay and we’ll do geeky internet stuff that helps you enjoy the SP experience As RJ mentioned, we’re not some big corporation, we’re a group of independent entrepreneurs looking to be a part of something special and to help SP accomplish great things. A Fresh StartAs you know we've been busy looking for Sneakerplay's new home. We've spoken to quite a few companies, some big, some small with the hopes of finding just the right group to take SP to the next level. Our criteria were pretty simple: the new maintainers of SP would need to be able to listen to the community, understand what we've built while steadily improving the experience. It's my pleasure to announce that we've found just the right group of guys that will do just this and more. We're handing over the torch to Keroch, a group of independent entrepreneurs that have an extensive web background. We felt that going with this small web savvy team would help to maintain SP's family-like vibe vs. handing things over to a big corporation i.e. MTV. These guys value what we've built and have the experience to take things to the next level. Join me in welcoming Brian and his team!What now…what's going to change? You can expect things to pretty much be the same except for some much needed feature updates, site improvements and who knows maybe even some new mods to support Goodman our community manager. We ask that you please show patience as the Keroch team works to familiarize themselves with the site and works through the long list of action items. As the founders of SP we'll still be around and will be helping with the transition. We're extremely humbled and thankful to have been able to build such a dynamic global community. Looking for Sneakerplay's New Home For the past several months, our focus on Sneakerplay has lost its steam. Over time, we’ve realized that we weren’t committing the same amount of energy as we did in the beginning. Our focus has been diverted by other projects that we’re currently working on. We think it’s not fair to you guys to not support Sneakerplay the way it’s meant to be supported. Sneakerplay really needs a new home. We believe in the right hands, Sneakerplay can flourish. It needs someone who can nurture it, build new features, and give it the right attention it needs. We’ve been talking to several potential buyers (MTV, Complex) and we feel that we should keep you guys in the loop. We want to reassure you guys that we plan on keeping everything the same and are making sure that the buyer will have Sneakerplay community's best interest at heart. Building Sneakerplay and helping to grow this vibrant community has been a blast and an exciting two and half years. What started out as an idea from 3 friends with a passion for fashion and the web grew it into what is Sneakerplay today - a global community of forward thinking like-minded individuals. Our community has been featured in the New York Times, USA Times and secured one-of-kind contests and campaigns with the likes of Nike, EA Sports and Adidas. All in all, we would not trade this experience for any amount of sneakers, which is why its a bitter sweet end for us but just the beginning for Sneakerplay. November 30, 2008
