Future Forward!

The year that was '07 is quickly coming to a close; making way for a new year and new beginnings. We're not really big on 'year in review' type posts, so let's change the subject to whats to come in the future. The collaborative effort that is Sneakerplay is as strong as ever thanks to our active, vibrant, brilliant community (read You) and we're going to continue to maintain and nurture that positive environment. We're going to continue to push the boundaries with new features, contests and more of the 'never not working' attitude. Don't sleep, don't wait, get it straight in '08

Air Jordan XX3 - First Look

Mr. 'I Got Them Jordan's A Year Before You' also known on SP as Air-Randy recently dropped some pics of the upcoming Jordan XX3's. You can see more here on his blog post or visit Air-randy.com for your Jordan fix.

New Activity Feature!

You ask and you shall receive! There have been several requests for a feature that would give you a snapshot of what you're friends have been up to while on SP and now its hear in the form of Activity - which you'll notice on your next login. The first thing you need to do to get started is 'edit subscriptions', you can then select a maximum of 25 friends, save the changes and your good to go.

From now on when you are in 'edit' mode in your profile you will see the latest updates from the friends that you are subscribed to. The 'view' mode will show visitors to your profile what you've been doing lately on SP i.e. starting discussions, commenting on profiles, blogs or battles, while the 'Friends' tab will show visitors to your profile updates from friends that you guys have in common. You can easily modify what actions you want to share with your friends by going into your 'preferences' via your 'account' settings.

Confessions of a Sneaker Addict

Here's an old school article I've been searching for some time now It's the classic "Confessions of a Sneaker addict" by Bobbito Garcia. The feature was published in a 1991 issue of the Source and pretty much catapulted Bobbito onto Nike's radar. (thanks to Frank_Stoney for posting it in the forums.)

This year has not only seen the 25 anniversary celebration of the AF1 but it's been a big year for Bobbito, as well, who is pretty much the official spokesman for the model and now has several AF1 designs under his belt. This guy is the best example of a prosumer - consumer turned producer (consultant). Getting paid to do what you love, it doesn't get much better than that.

Feiyue - Flying Forward

We're all about independent (footwear) brands here at SP HQ, from VisVim, to JB Classics, to Clae, Pointer and Common Projects. Feiyue is one our new indie favs.

FEIYUE shoes was born in Shanghai in 1920. It has been a reference among all Chinese social categories from the countryman to the politician, from the captain of the national soccer Team to the famous Shaolin masters...

Seven (Top Secret) Social Networks

Sneakerplay made it to Under The Radar's list of Seven niche/alternative networks, along with Honeyee, Riottt, Blocksavvy and Velospace - a bike/fixie community. This actually one of the better lists I've seen that covers the street-2.0-web landscape.

Funkmaster Flex X JB Classics

Independent sneaker brand JB Classics teamed up with DJ Funkmaster Flex and the inventors of the automobile, Ford . This collaboration took over 3 years of preparation and work to create a very special triple label product. The end results include the JB Getlo - FMF Model (DJ Funkmaster Flex) and JB Getlo – Ford Motors | FMF Model. The JB Getlo - FMF Model will be released at only a select few shops around the world beginning now and hitting NYC in Early December at, MOE's Sneaker Boutique (NYC), DEEP STORE (Paris), Qubic (New Zealand), Overkill (Berlin), Garage (Switzerland) and online at Pick Your Shoes. Look for more info to release at www.FunkmasterFlex.com or www.Suite2206.com regarding the JB Getlo – FMF | Ford Motors Model and for a full list of NYC retailers.
